Punjab to Conduct COVID-19 Tests at Schools

The health department of Punjab has taken the decision of conducting the COVID-19 tests at schools in the province.


Captain (retd.) Usman, the Health Secretary held a meeting with the heads of the government labs during which the decision was taken to surge the laboratories testing capacities, to work in 3 shifts, and to adopt pool testing.

He said that the COVID-19 testing would be conducted throughout the province as per the directives of the NCOC. A sampling drive would be operated on behalf of the NCOC at 986 high-risk educational institutes.

It was further informed that the sampling campaign would be run after every 15 days at 383 institutions.

Captain (retd) Usman said that random sampling would be done at six hundred and three schools, colleges, and universities. On a per-day basis, more than 5,000 tests would be conducted and every 15 days 70,000 samples would be collected.

The school education department teams would be offered the needed training on how to collect the samples for the PCR tests.

It has been decided by the federal government that schools all across the nation are to reopen from the 15th of this month. COVID-19 tests have been mandated upon the teachers and the students.
