It has been announced by the Punjab government that there will be further relaxation in the lockdown on Friday. From May 18th, the public transport services, shopping malls and automobile production units will be permitted to resume activity in the province.
Punjab Industries and Trade Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal revealed that the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for shopping malls and the automobile industry have been finalized. They would be permitted to restore business activity from Monday.
The minister said that the working hours for shopping malls have been fixed. He further said that the SOPs will be strictly followed. This includes using thermal guns to check temperature, using hand sanitizers and masks.
He said that the production units will be allowed to operate 7 days a week, with regard to the automobile industry. The showrooms will be permitted to open four days a week.
This announcement has been made on a day when Punjab reported 353 new COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths in just 24 hours. The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Punjab currently stand at 13, 914 while the deaths in the province are 234.
The nationwide tally has reached 37,218, with 1,430 cases reported in the past 24 hours as of 15th May 2020.
Back on 13th May, the Federal Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar gave warning that the lockdown might be again imposed if the SOPs are not followed.
