PCB has approached Shoaib Akhtar for the role of chief selector. The news was confirmed by the legendary fast-bowler himself.
Misbah has been a target of constant criticism ever since he accepted the dual role, which is of the head coach and the national side’s chief selector. The pressure on him has only surged owing to the below-expectations performance of the team during his tenure.
Akhtar has mentioned that the discussions are going on with the Pakistan Cricket Board as he is interested to work for the betterment of the cricket team of the country.
He said that he would not deny it that he had some discussions with the board and that he is interested in playing a significant role in Pakistan Cricket. However, nothing has been decided yet.
He further mentioned that he lives a comfortable life and that he had played cricket on his terms but now he has settled down. Shoaib Akhtar also said that he is ready to leave his comfort and to try putting his neck on the line for the Cricket Board of Pakistan. He also said that he is not afraid to give advice to others and added that if opportunities come he would give it time.
The legendary bowler also said that he wants to play a role in making a pool of players from the new generation who play with an aggressive mindset and without the fear of getting failed.
He further said that Pakistan needs to have the players with the same mindset as that of the greatest cricketers of Pakistan which include Javed Miandad, Mushtaq Muhammad or Wasim Akram
