19-year-old quick Naseem Shah has broken the record for taking the most wickets after first four ODI matches in career. His second consecutive five-wicket haul stretched his tally to 15 wickets in the format. No bowler in the world had more wickets than him at this stage of career.
Australia’s Gary Gilmour and Ryan Harris were joint-holders of this record before today. Both of them took 14 wickets each. Gilmour only represented Australia five times and took 16 wickets, while Harris bagged 44 wickets in 21 matches.
For Pakistan, Usman Shinwari held this record. He took 12 wickets in his first four ODIs. He went on to play 17 matches for Pakistan and took 34 wickets.
The right-arm pacer has taken two five-wicket hauls before turning 20. Among pacers, only Waqar Younis had taken more than him before his 20th birthday. Mustafizur Rahman from Bangladesh also had two hauls to his name.
For Pakistan, Saqlain Mushtaq is the other bowler to take as many five-wicket hauls as Naseem. Saqlain is currently the head coach of Pakistan as well.
