The medical colleges have relaxed the admission criteria for the upcoming academic year. As per the newly released rules, the candidates must at least get 33 percent marks in the entry tests in order to get considered for the admission. Half of the 66 percent minimum score is needed of the last year.
The medical and dental colleges have further relaxed the requirements for appearing in the entry tests as well. It has permitted the students who have acquired 65 percent marks in the Intermediate Science Annual group exams to sit for the test.
Back in 2019, only the students who had obtained 70 percent or more marks in these exams were permitted to take and sit in the entry tests.
Because of this compulsion of 70 percent marks, the admission process in many of the medical and dental colleges was left incomplete, as the government of Balochistan raised objections to the criteria that had been set by the PMDC.
The claim of the Balochistan government was that it was an underdeveloped province and the students were disadvantaged and could not get marks as high as 70 percent. The provincial government hence asked for flexible criteria for getting the minimum score for appearing in the entry tests to be set to 65 percent. Because of all this, the Pakistan Medical and Dental College decided to lower the criteria.
As per PMDC, the written entry tests for the medical and dental colleges would be conducted from the 15th of September to the 15th of October, with every province made to organize and conduct the test within the same time span.
The admissions in the medical and dental colleges of Sindh are planned to commence under a uniform policy from this month after the announcement of the results of Intermediate Science examinations. But, there is a limitation to conduct the test which is, they could only be conducted once the results are announced.
It is pertinent to mention that with the COVID-19 pandemic, the results of inter exams could not be conducted this year and the results are to be issued without the usual exams.
It was decided in a meeting of the steering committee of the provincial education department that the results of grade 11 and 12 students would be announced on the 30th of September, and the mark sheets would be issued one week after the result announcement.
Keeping these delays into consideration, it is expected that the admission process would be completed by December at the earliest.
