LHC Places Ban on Polythene Bags Usage Across Punjab


The Lahore High Court (LHC) has placed a ban on the polythene bags usage across Punjab.

Justice Shahid Kareem, the Judge of the Lahore High Court heard the petition, asking for a ban on the use of polythene bags, referring to it as dangerous for both human health and for the environment.

The petition filer stated that the polythene bags are leading to environmental pollution. The Lahore High Court after hearing the plea imposed a complete ban on the use of the polythene bags all across Punjab.

The related authorities were strictly told to make sure that the orders are implemented.

Previously on the 21st of February, the LHC issued orders for a complete ban on the use of polythene bags at the departmental stores and directed that the provincial authorities submit a detailed report on the matter.

During a hearing session at the LHC, Justice Karim said that the world has already left the use of such bags, and the firms in the US and other nations have shifted to the use of eco-friendly green bags.

He stated that plastic bags are becoming hazardous especially for marine life. He further asked that why are the departmental stores showing hesitation in leaving the use of plastic bags and said that this step is such that they should have taken themselves.

The judge remarked that they have placed a ban on the use of plastic bags at the departmental stores because the big shoppers made up of more chemicals being used there.
