Tonight it was an Azam Khan show as he scored 97 runs off just 42 deliveries and helped Islamabad United dominate Quetta Gladiators by 63 runs after Gladiators failed to chase the mammoth target of 221 runs set for them in the 13th match of the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the National Bank Cricket Arena on Friday.
Colin Munro and Asif Ali played fine cameos as well for their side. Quetta Gladiators struggled to find their lengths right. They had a good start to the game but lost their momentum afterward in the game. Quetta Gladiators batters struggled with their blades. The Gladiators were rocked early, with Guptill, Roy and Smeed all departing inside the powerplay. Their senior batsman Sarfaraz and Muhammad Hafeez tried to help the sinking boat for a while but didn’t end the match. Hafeez scored 48 runs along with skipper Sarfaraz who to manage to score 41 runs respectively.
Azam got the player of the match award and says it was one of his best innings so far as the ball was coming onto his bat and tried to play every ball at its merit. Further he added, His father Moin Khan played a vital role in his success and such nights as he was the one who encouraged him always to do well.
Islamabad United won to make the match one-sided and won it comprehensively and bowled out Quetta Gladiators for 157 runs. They kept on picking up wickets at regular intervals and never let the batters to settled. Fazalhaq Farooqi and Hassan Ali picked three wickets each.
